WHY HIRE A PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHER?

This may be a question you’re contemplating yourself right now, as you look through our site…

These days, everybody has a perfectly adequate camera. So it’s not surprising if you think that you could take your newborn photos yourself or have a friend or family member do it. Lets face it, most of us know someone who’s keen on photography.

There is usually a significant investment of time and money involved when hiring a professional photographer and if virtually everyone you know is offering to take the pictures you want, you may be wondering why on earth you should spend time and money hiring a professional. Well, wonder no more!  Let’s take a look.

A PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHER WILL GUARANTEE THEIR RESULTS

Proud dads and excited aunts might get some lovely snaps of your little one. But maybe they won’t. Your new baby only stays in that teeny tiny newborn stage for about 10 days. After that, they’ve already grown and developed and look different. They’ll never get that look back. It is there for a very short time and then it’s gone forever. Commemorative pictures from this magical time are something you’ll long for in the years and decades to come. Do you really want to leave those precious pictures to chance? When you invest in time with a professional photographer you’re removing the element of chance and buying the reliability of consistently high-quality portraits – guaranteed.

A PROFESSIONAL NEWBORN PHOTOGRAPHER HAS BEEN TRAINED IN HOW TO POSE YOUR BABY SAFELY

Many of the most heart-breakingly cute portraits of newborn babies aren’t actually one image, but a composite of two or more images. This is done so that during the creation of these images your baby is never placed at risk.

Although it may look as if they’re self-supporting the head, they’re not. Even knowing how to do this isn’t all of it, though.  Every baby is different, and not every baby is comfortable in this position.

Trained newborn photographers know how to pose Baby safely in ways that aren’t visible in the final portrait. They also have the experience to work within the comfortable limits of each individual baby, and will never force a pose.  Lastly, they then have the technical ability to combine these images into a fantastic end result. But you’d never be able to tell, would you? So please don’t try this at home, folks! It’s really not worth the risk.

A PROFESSIONAL’S ARTISTIC TRAINING MEANS YOUR COMMISSION WILL BE TAILORED TO YOUR INDIVIDUAL PERSONALITY AND YOUR HOME’S DÉCOR

Can grandad or your next-door neighbour really be relied upon to assess your style and the style of your home and create a piece of art tailored perfectly to your individual requirements? When you commission a professional photographer they will often take a creative brief. There are many creative decisions to consider when creating your piece of art.

The creative brief means that the photographer can make these decisions based on your individual style, personality and preferences. The professional photographer will ensure that your art not only fulfils your brief, but fits perfectly in your home. Your artwork will enhance your home for many years to come, whether you want to add drama and impact, or simply need the ‘ahhhh factor’ when you’re leaving for work on a cold, dark, winter’s morning.

THE YEARS OF EXPERIENCE OF A QUALIFIED PROFESSIONAL CAN’T BE UNDERESTIMATED

Whether it’s being able to get your baby into a deep enough sleep so that they can be safely posed or, with the utmost care, posing them beautifully without waking them – this is where the years of experience of a seasoned professional come into their own.  It is a very specific skill set – one that takes years to master.

IT’S NOT ABOUT THE CAMERA – IT’S ABOUT THE LIGHT

Kath is a qualified member of the Master Photographers Association and as such is an expert at painting with light. She bathes her subjects in soft, warm, flattering light, creating portraits that tell a story through the shadows as much as the highlights. This technique will bring out the best in you and your little one, and is fundamental in the creation of her elegant maternity portraits.

WHEN YOU LEAVE OUR STUDIO, OUR WORK IS JUST BEGINNING

Your baby may have flakey skin, milk spots, or appear a little jaundiced.  That’s fine, as it’s all part of being a newborn baby.  At your ordering appointment, we’ll discuss your preferences regarding airbrushing.  The reason we don’t do this in advance is because different clients have different preferences.

Some parents want a natural look and want to preserve every precious flake, blotch and bit of dribble.  Other parents want polished perfection.  (Most parents aren’t averse to a bit of work on themselves, though!!) We will check with you before we begin post-processing your portraits and perfecting your finished artwork.

Whatever your preferences, years of training will be brought to bear to make your portraits as stunning as they can be.

IT’S ACTUALLY A PLEASANT EXPERIENCE – HONEST!

A portrait session is a chance to step away from the daily grind and focus only on you andyour  baby for a few hours. The sprinkling of glamour from a maternity session adds some sparkle to the last month of your pregnancy. A newborn session allows you the opportunity, during those sleep-deprived first days, to curl up under a cosy blanket and get some much-needed rest while Kath creates your newborn artwork for you.

IF YOU DON’T ORGANISE YOUR NEWBORN PHOTOSHOOT IN ADVANCE, YOU’LL PROBABLY MISS THE (VERY SHORT) WINDOW OF OPPORTUNITY

A newborn session is a commitment on our part too. Kath doesn’t book anything else on the day of a newborn session. She also wants to give the best of herself to each and every client, so she only has three portrait sessions available per week. If you don’t book one in advance, you will probably miss the opportunity to create those images that will make you, your family and friends go “ahhhhh” for years to come.

A MONEY-BACK GUARANTEE MEANS YOU REALLY HAVE NOTHING TO LOSE
